Lectionary for 10/1/08

Today's readings are Deuteronomy 2.16-37 http://www.gnpcb.org/esv/search/?q=Deut.+2.16-37 and Matthew 6.16-34 http://www.gnpcb.org/esv/search/?q=Matt.+6.16-34 .

Today's readings may leave us quite ready to bind God's Law upon ourselves.  The Israelites live, walk, encamp, and fight by God's command.  Jesus tells us how to fast, what to consider valuable, and not to worry.  And we do none of it well.

Look at Jesus' proclamation of the Gospel in 6.25-33.  Life is more than we see.  The Father cares for us.  Our Lord has measured our days.  God provides for weeds and will provide for his people.  Our Father knows we need earthly provision.  He will supply our needs.

Our Lord and Savior, teach us to rest in your promises, to know your comfort and provision.
